OpenAI Unveils New AI-Powered Search Engine SearchGPT to Compete with Google

OpenAI has introduced a prototype of its AI-powered search engine called SearchGPT. The tool aims to provide users with clear answers with fast and relevant sources. Currently in alpha testing, SearchGPT is being tested with a limited group of users and is planned to be integrated into the popular chatbot ChatGPT in the future.

SearchGPT’s user interface is very similar to the ChatGPT platform. When a search is performed, information and photos from the web are presented along with links to relevant sources. Users can ask additional questions on the subject or explore other related searches in the sidebar.

CrowdStrike Is Giving Away $10 Uber Eats Gift Cards To Apologize

Due to a problem caused by an antivirus software called CrowdStrike, Windows computers were shut down, causing internet access problems worldwide. CrowdStrike's technical glitches affected many computer systems worldwide, causing outages in critical sectors such as banks, hospitals, and airlines. It was reported that an estimated 8.5 million Windows devices were affected by these major outages, which occurred as a result of a faulty software update.

Gift cards were deemed invalid due to fraud risk.

Now, there is another interesting development on the subject. CrowdStrike offered $10 Uber Eats gift cards to its team members and partners as an apology after the major system outage that occurred last week. However, these cards were deemed invalid due to the risk of fraud. The company distributed these gift cards to apologize and thank them for the disruptions.

However, when some users tried to use their gift cards on Uber Eats, they were met with a message saying that the cards were invalid. Uber decided that the cards were at risk of fraud due to their unusual usage rates and invalidated these cards.

TikTok Shop Prepares to Launch in Ireland and Spain

TikTok Shop appeared set to launch in several European countries this summer, but owner ByteDance has put the brakes on the expansion. The shopping feature will reportedly be available in Ireland and Spain in October, followed by other European countries next year.

TikTok, the international subsidiary of Chinese company ByteDance, launched TikTok Shop in parts of Asia in early 2022, followed by expansions in the United Kingdom and the United States. Further expansions were delayed due to disappointing results in the United Kingdom, where TikTok launched its fulfillment services.

TikTok Shop appeared to be coming to continental Europe this spring, when TikTok began inviting sellers to beta test in Germany, France, Italy, and Spain.

Amazon Shows Resilience in the UK

Despite the rapid rise of Chinese platforms, Amazon remains hugely popular in the UK. The company has managed to maintain its monthly active user numbers since the start of the year. Shein is growing, but Temu has seen a decline in users.

This is clear from GWS Magnify’s figures. According to the mobile analytics and business intelligence firm, around 26 million Britons visited Amazon in June, suggesting that interest in the UK’s ecommerce market leader is as high as it was at the start of the year.

Amazon and Ebay in the spotlight

Last year, Amazon lost shoppers due to increased competition, particularly from China, but now the platform is holding its own. “The latest data shows Amazon is more resilient than ever,” Direct Commerce says, citing GWS’s figures.

With 17.5 million monthly active users, US eBay is also managing to stay ahead of the Chinese competition in the UK.

Shein and Temu

Shein is the country with the biggest growth, with 10.5 million monthly active UK users in June, compared to just under 8.0 million in the previous six months. Temu, on the other hand, saw a slight decline in interest, attracting 4% fewer active visitors than at the end of the year. But with around 16 million monthly users, Temu is still significantly larger than Shein and Asos. The local player is duplicating Shein to boost turnover and profitability.

Furthermore, Temu is also the leader in terms of engagement: users (mostly women) spend an average of 18 minutes per day on the platform, spread over six visits.

Shein engages with users for just over 8 minutes per day, while Amazon’s engagement time is slightly lower (almost 8 minutes per day, spread over four visits).

Clio Raises $900 Million at $3 Billion Valuation
